ARO North Shore Site Blessing Signals Start of Construction

Fri May 3rd 2024

Auckland Radiation Oncology opened its doors in Epsom in 2008 as the first private radiation therapy treatment centre in New Zealand. Our mission was to provide patients with a choice of world-leading radiation therapy to improve cancer treatment outcomes and quality of life. 16 years on, the commitment remains strong, as ARO commences the construction of a new facility on the North Shore, expanding our treatment offering to more Kiwis. This new endeavour will not only bring care closer to patients residing on the North Shore and north of Auckland but also reaffirms our commitment to advancing cancer care accessibility.

The Blessing of the Site

Scheduled to open its doors in 2025, the new facility took a significant stride towards reality this week with the ceremonial turning of the soil. It was an important event in recognising the importance of the construction about to begin and the impact the new treatment centre will have for many cancer patients and their whānau for years to come.

An Event of Significance

It was an honour to have Eruera Morgan, the Kaumātua for HHL performing the important blessing of the site. Joseph Stafford, the Director of Equity and Customer Experience HHL and Andrew Wong, Chair of the ARO Board contributed to the ceremony which was also attended by the ARO leadership team, directors and key partners involved in the construction programme.

Meeting the Challenges of Tomorrow

The new North Shore facility will include specialised treatment rooms and consulting suites for patients who need radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Not only will the centre provide the latest in technology, the warm and welcoming ARO team of radiation oncologists, nurses, radiation therapists, reception staff and physicists will add the essential component of medical expertise and personal support.

We look forward to bringing more updates as the construction progresses.
