Clinical Director: Professor Chelleraj Benjamin, ONZM
Professor Benjamin was previously clinical director of radiation oncology at Auckland City Hospital where he was a specialist for 26 years. He was named an Officer New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2008 New Year’s Honours list for his services to medicine and the community.
Professor Benjamin is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and NZ College of Radiologists and is associate Dean of the Oceanic University of Medicine.
He has worked with N.Z.A.I.D and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 10 years (1996-2005) as the coordinator of New Zealand Medical Treatment Scheme for seven South Pacific countries (Fiji, Samoa, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Tonga, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu). benji.benjamin@aro.co.nz
Chief Physicist: Dr John Simpson, CSci CRadP
John was formerly director of medical physics at the Townsville Hospital, Australia and assistant director of medical physics, Royal Cornwall Hospital, UK. He has previously established radiation oncology services in the UK and Australia and was an advisor to the Government of Papua New Guinea.
John is a member of the Institute of Physics & Engineering in Medicine, the Australasian College of Physics & Engineering in Medicine and the Society for Radiological Protection.
He is currently researching in the use of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging in prostate cancer. This is in collaboration with the University of Queensland, Centre for Magnetic Resonance, Australia. john.simpson@aro.co.nz
Charge Radiation Therapist – Denise Redwood BSc RT(T)
Denise comes to ARO with many years experience as a radiation therapist in New Zealand, the UK and the USA.
She has extensive experience in private radiation oncology in the United States and has managed centres similar in size and scope to ARO. She has also held senior positions in planning, treatment and education.
Denise will lead a team of accomplished radiation therapists, nurses and administrators to ensure patients receive the best possible care and attention during their time at ARO.
