About ARO
Auckland Radiation Oncology is at the forefront of outpatient
cancer treatment in New Zealand, providing the best available
therapy and delivering hope to cancer patients by improving cure
rates and quality of life.
Our aim is to provide patients with the choice of timely best
possible care by offering bench marked radiation treatment aimed
directly at improving cancer treatment outcomes.
Our cancer services are based around multidisciplinary teams and
partnerships, with each team member offering special skills to
support patient care. Our approach to treatment means the patient's
journey towards wellness is streamlined and simple, making things
as easy as possible in what can be a very difficult time.
Our purpose built technologically advanced facility, combined
with talented, dedicated individuals, will on a daily basis strive
to cure patients with cancer, improve their quality of life and
ease the suffering of those they cannot cure.
During treatment, support for patients and their families is
crucial. To ensure best practice care, we work closely with other
cancer service providers.
Our state of
the art facility
Auckland Radiation Oncology offers two linear accelerators
(radiation therapy machines). This enables us to provide radiation
therapy services to the highest international standards from some
of New Zealand's top specialists.
Our purpose built facility offers attractive, comfortable
surroundings with the convenience of radiation therapy, pre and
post treatment care, laboratory and radiology providers, a pharmacy
and support from Mercy Hospital, all in one central location.
Situated in the leafy suburb of Epsom in Auckland, our facility
also affords good access to motorways, parking, public transport,
accommodation and other services.
Our
technology
Elekta Synergy
After extensive market research, ARO chose the Elekta Synergy
Linear Accelerator. The combination of high resolution 3D imaging,
taken at the time of treatment, along with comprehensive workflow
solutions that allow this application to be used routinely, creates
a sophisticated IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy) solution.
This will allow us to utilise advanced radiation therapy techniques
from the outset such as IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation
Therapy) and adaptive radiation therapy.
The Elekta Synergy is also VMAT (Modulated Arc Therapy) capable.
This is an exciting new delivery technology, to be launched in
2009, that offers faster treatment times.
From a patient comfort point of view, this means much less time
in the treatment room and a more accurate treatment as set-up
variation due to patient and organ movement will be reduced.
